Amulets of protection Bristol Museum

Honest passion! Making, makes a better day!

We had a quick visit to Bristol at the weekend and managed to get to the Museum and Art Gallery.  I love being reminded of the human condition. Around 5000 years ago, crafting and making held great importance, Egyptians believed these amulets protected from harm. They were made and then accompanied by a small ceremony that would restore calm from the chaos.  While clearly this is a diverse and in depth perspective to reflect upon with many angles to pursue, it is of benefit to relate to the people of the time in order to value their societal roles and that of their craft.

I love to put thought and care into the works I make.  I love happy sentiment, expression or gentle humour and pour it into the piece of art. It's a wonderful process to make a commission and really translate what matters to the person in the final picture or to make a painting that someone sees an unspoken connection to.

Thinking of the significance of these Egyptian amulets, sets a wonderful challenge for us artists to keep the faith with every brushstroke and to reaffirm why we like to make and for art lovers to remember to look for the honest passion in a piece.
